I should talk about my books more

I often think of myself as a screenwriter who stumbled into writing books when a fantasy word grew beyond the confines of a screenplay. If someone asks me what I'm working on, my mind naturally gravitates to the backlog of scripts and treatments languishing in a folder on my computer.

I am somewhat envious of other writers in the fantasy genre who not only manage to create amazing worlds of science-fiction and fantasy, but who do so regularly and consistently. I have found myself in the George R.R. Martin camp recently, slowly but surely chipping away at the third and final chapter in the Spirits of Vengeance saga.

But I did do something a few months ago which was really cool, and I thought I'd share it.

The characters of Spirits of Vengeance... in technicolour!

In October last year, I decided to buy myself a birthday present, something I didn't think anyone else would get (and if you have a writer in your life, this is a great gift idea). I had a brilliant young artist named Alexander Rodikov illustrate my main characters, which you can now see on the 'Character' section of the Spirits of Vengeance website.

Alexander did such a great job of capturing the details based on my descriptions and notes, and he is available for work on Fiverr. He even managed to do some new characters from the second book, Assassin of Araneque, which I hope to add to the website in due course.

His drawings have inspired me to do a series of blog posts about each of these characters, in the hope that they resonate with you as much as they do with me. I may also do one on how I come up with characters, their names, their relationships, and their history. I hope that would be useful to fellow writers out there.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with a closer look at one of my favourite characters... the cyclops mage, Oldwyn Blake!
